Default Ordered New Phals. 2 violacea x's & a bellina ludeo x.

Ok so I have two violacea crosses, and one bellina cross coming. Any special tips?
I had a Princess Kaiulani at one point but I think I killed it during a round of neglect while I was pregnant. Wish I could get another one of those...
If anybody has some care info for these guys I would really like it if you could share your knowledge. TIA Ginnibug

Ordered New Phals. 2 violacea x's & a bellina ludeo x. Male
Default I can tell you the setup I have

My violacea are in 100% sphag, in clear, slitted pots.
I water them when the pot "feels" lighter. Sounds strange but you soon get to know when another watering is due.
They are in an L shaped area, getting shaded south and west exposure. Its weakly, roughly weekly with fertiliser.
Temps don't fall below 68f, upper temps are higher- reaching 85f+ - as they are on a rack beneath a heating mat ( about 9 inches below ).
Humidity is in the 50% range.
Any grexes are under the same regime...
So far, so good......

I am sure there are others with a different set-up !

I grow mine in coconut husk chips (small grade for small phals and medium for large) with a little sponge rock and charcoal. I have also grown them successfully in moss. I like clear plastic pots with lots of drainage holes or slits. With clear pots it's easy to keep an eye on the health of the roots. No matter what medium you use put the orchid in the smallest pot that you can comfortably fit the roots into. You would be suprised at how much that improves your chances of success. I use a very light dose of a urea free fertilizer every week. Good luck.
