YAP- I definitely have a bad case. Perhaps we should start a support group? Oh, wait.. that's what OB is!

YAP is clearly a meme (a mind virus) - bear in mind that several parasitic organisms can change the behaviour of their hosts in ways that are not entirely healthy (worms that make grasshoppers jump into water; fungi that make ants climb to the top of grass stems, grip on, and then explode out of their head; flukes that turn snail tentacles lurid, pulsating colours to attract birds etc). Still, I don't think adding another plant to your life is quite as damaging to you as fungi bursting out of your head.

Clearly, those Phalaenopsis breeders have unleashed a monster. Or, seeing as YAP manifests itself just as much with species as hybrids and especially NOIDs, the plants had it already. And it's not just Phalaenopsis...! Yes, folks, I present YAO.

Places like OB are the reservoirs of this pernicious disease, full of other individuals thoroughly infested with it and aching to pass it on!

I cross-posted this in the beginners section as well and got plenty of good answers. It's just an "excited" node.

I believe that this Phal is an extremely happy one and tries to grow as much as possible with everything it can grow with, be it nodes, leaves, roots, spikes or blooms.
I've never come across such a healthy looking specimen before.

You can read the answers here: What's this? A mutated Phal node?

I view uncontrolled orchid buying as something more akin to a drug addiction, rather than a disease. Virus doesn't give you intense cravings for orchids!

I used to fall for Phals all the time, after all I live in the Noid capital of the world, where that they are absolutely everywhere and dirt cheap.
IT IS NEVER ENOUGH! *pants heavily while looking completely insane*

This virus obviously does, or it could be that I'm suffering from both YAP/YAO and a Phal addiction. That sound more probable actually.

But I have a plan to get rid of one, maybe two of the Noids I like the least. I think my sister would be very happy to receive one or two Phals from me (what her husband's reaction will be is a completely different subject). I don't want to but I need to plan ahead for my future invasion of different varieties of Phal equestris. I still have plenty of space though.
I mean I haven't even started to put them in hanging pots yet and I've only filled one of my windows (yes, my windows are quite large considering they take up the entire western wall of my flat).

Have a look at Kelo's setup, he has mastered the art of entirely filling a window with orchids, and now that the kitchen window is filled, he has moved on to the living room.... That photo is not very recent, i think it got to be even more crowded than that!

That's crowded!
I mean, I still have space between the pots in my kitchen window so there's still room for more.

Just had to post two more pictures of my Noid enjoying the morning sun. Relax, it was only some of the flowers that got hit directly by the sunlight, the rest of the Phal was protected.

It almost looks pure white in the first picture but it isn't.

Confession- I had a relapse of YAP today. Went to Trader Joes and there were lots of plants- I was surprised to see so many after Valentine's Day.
I only bought one, though- maybe there is hope for me.
