I can't speak too well to this but in general, warm growing phals will retain their spikes and bloom sequentially on them while growing new spikes every year. I have only one standard phals that retains its spike but sheds it before the new one is in full bloom; however, I have several warm growers that have four, five, six spikes they retain and will bloom again when they send out a new one. I'm probably not making any sense but I've noticed that all of my warm growers keep all of their spikes. Blooming over time can get pretty impressive with many spikes and new ones blooming at the same time.

Well that's a bummer. Guess I won't be looking for one.

Ok, now I see what you mean! I guess I'll find out once it decides to grow new spikes again if the old one hangs on or not.
Maybe it's parentage can give a clue. It's:
31% amboinensis
25% equestris
25% venosa
6.3% lueddemanniana
6.3% violacea
and the rest is aphrodite, amabilis, schilleriana and rimestadiana.

Actually, it seems like it is a 'warm grower' like you say, if we are to go by Tucker's post on the first page:

Yup, Camille, that is exactly what I expected and yes the parentage has a ton to do with it and I may be crazy, but you can often tell just by the leaves if it is. All of my warm growers have that lighter green, very shiny and very broad leaves the would expect to see with the violeceas of the orchid world. That's a huge generalization and only something I've noticed and communicate in my limited orchid knowledge but it seems to ring true.

I know I'm late to the game on this thread but WOW! Camile, this one is amazing. And fragrant too? It just made the list.

Beautiful flowers, but what a pity that it's a large plant!
What is the fragrance like?
