Little knob means Phal spike is still putting out buds?
Default Little knob means Phal spike is still putting out buds?

I have a small NOID Phal that I bought sometime between January and March in bloom. Right now, she has 5 blooms on her spike. There is a small bulb at the end of the spike, is this yet another flower bud?

I haven't kept track, but the spike has grown so long I have wrapped it in a figure 8 shape and there are 35 scars from old blooms.

Is this normal behavior in a Phal, or am I just lucky?

I saw in another thread someone said they applied paste to grow keikis. It seems to me that it would be a nice thing to put that bare spike back to work. What is this paste?

Well a picture of the flower and spike would help answer your first question, as there are telltale signs of a sequential bloomer, so I could tell you of it is normal, or you just have a very healthy plant depending on what the flower looms like (Yes, you can do that!) I don't know much about the kieki paste, so I can't comment on that.

Some Phals like to continue pushing out buds after the initial flush of blooms. Some never ever do it. If you have a pic of the spike tip it'll be easier to tell what it is, but seeing how much that spike has bloomed I wouldnt be surprised if it was.

Here is a photo of the end of the spike, sorry it is overexposed, but you can see there is a knob on the end. also a photo of the spike, and a photo of a single bloom.

Hard to tell from that pic. Even without a bud the spike end is a bit enlarged and slightly pointed. I guess it's wait and see!
Gorgeous bloom, it's a nice color, and I like the shape of it.

I've quite commonly seen what looks like a small knob that might turn into bud. On some of my Phals it has indeed produced a bud, on others it's never done anything more.

I think you are describing the same thing I've seen, however even if it is the answer is that it may or may not produce more flowers from there.
