Can My Phal Survive without Leaves?

I leave the strings on a struggling one. Some people say cut them off because they won't do anything but they don't hurt either and can help stabilise it in the pot. They may even be able to pull up some water and I get the impression completely rootless phals that have the strings recover easier than those without the strings.

Some people say don't water for a few days after repotting, and don't fertilise for a month or so. I'm not sure, I personally water and fertilise straight away.

Thank. I shall water and fertilize after the bark is dry and I have repotted what is left of the Phaleonopsis. The bark was soaking wet and there were a few minute bugs in it, thrips I suspect. Therefore I put it in the oven to dry out, kill the pests, and sterilize it. I reported the mistreatment to the parish so now I am officially orchid waterer. Every Sunday or whenever I happen to be at church I shall empty out any water in the pots, check the roots and water if they are silvery green. They should last longer and survive. Everyone is happy with that solution.

I agree, toss them out and start fresh...if you try to salvage what is left if anything, you will spend countless hours in most probable vain...it is discouraging. I would only attempt salvation of those plants if I had a greenhouse available...and that would take years to get a 'possible' keiki....it really isn't worth the effort...go to lowes or wal mart and buy a new one....good luck!

I bought a new Phaleonopsis yesterday. It was marked down to 80 Swedish crowns (less than 13 US $) has 2 spikes, 6 open flowers and 10 or 11 buds, is like a Yu Pin Pearl but is a bright yellow instead of white and has lots of thick, healthy, green roots. I could not resist it. It is my 18th Phaleonopsis and my Christmas present to myself. 3 of them are white and one of those which I managed to save from root rot has just shed its last flower after blooming since December. The one I bought for 10 Swedish crowns (less than 2 US $) in the summer still has 2 flowers blooming on it. It had 2 spikes and is white with purple centre. There is 1 bud but no flowers left on my violet one which has bloomed since the spring. On my pale purple one with purple centre there are 2 flowers left. There is a spike on one that I was given after it had finished blooming. I do not know what colour it is but suspect it is white though I hope it will have other colours and be different from those I already have. With so few in bloom I allowed myself to indulge in this one and hope it will last till Christmas as the "Christmas" Azalea I bought last year started flowering again at the beginning of this month and will soon be over.

I think it is beautiful too but not fake. There are bright blue ones I have seen and they are fake. I would never buy a fake one. Also I am keeping it out of the autumn sun as I do not want the colours to fade.

There was an almost orange Phaleonopsis as well. if it is still there and has enough buds and is in good shape i shall buy it too. I did not see any dark red ones to replace the one that was killed but anyway I prefer the yellow one and the almost orange one.
