Another Phal. rescued from Walmart's clutches
Last year I saw this poor thing, past blooming and standing in water. I unpotted it at home and saw lots of rotted roots,so it got the famous sphag and bag treatment. It now has one bloom and two buds. The blossom is 2¼ inches in diameter, and the stem is 8½ inches tall. I would call the color predominantly yellow phasing into peach. It has a faint aroma.Although I have seen a number of Phals on the Internet that look almost like it,I don't find one that matches.
I'm very happy with it.

some time ago i rescued a NOID from home depot here in Calgary. it was sorry looking (limp leaves etc) but I loved the colours of the bloom. after i watered it a few times, the leaves firmed up and the silly thing can;t stop blooming! it looks as though it is blooming off the end of the spike (its done this twice now). i still think these stores should be ashamed of themselves the way they treat their plants (esp the orchids!) - m

I love it Congrats on your success!
The color is similar to my 'Melon' but the flower is much bigger.
A precious phal, indeed!
I agree, ladyslipper!
I would love to see a photo of it please

There are several facets to rescuing an orchid plant: One,it was a bargain. Two,frequently it is a lovely surprise. Three, you saved a plant that some one had bred and someone carefully nurtured. The down side is that you usually don't know exactly what it is.

I had a pleasant surprise today when someone on another forum identified it as Phal. Summer Beach. It was hard to find a good photo on the Internet, but I did find one,and I believe he is right.

Great save! And really pretty, sunset hues on that bloom.
What is this famous "spag and bag treatment"? Do tell.
