This is the other Phal that survived the brief cold spell three weeks ago or so in our greenhouse.
I bought it from Brennan's at the Philadelphia flower show with a nice healthy spike and got two buds before the cold snap ruined the spike
The two surviving blooms are now fully open and imho are really interesting.
The name is Phal Taida Sleeping and it does not have a cultivar on the tag.
This is a cross between Phal Sleeping Giant (which is a mostly white vigorous and easy growing phal) and Phal Hilo Lip (which is red with a stunning white lip...hard to grow though)
The goal of the cross as I understood it was to retain the amazing look of Hilo Lip and impart the vigorous growing characteristics of the Sleeping Giant.
We shall see eh?
The bloom is not very red but the color is darkening over time...more of a light lavender to me.
The lip is not fully white but quite stunning none the less. Not sure how the temperature drop may have affected their color either.
Shame I don't have a full row of them in bloom....
Enjoy!
