Default Fragrant phals.......

I know many phals have a light fragrance. I have only two that have a strong fragrance Phal. Sweet (Brother Lawrence x (Buena Jewel x Mannii)) and Phal. Lea Mariea Salazar 'Red Dream'. I would like to get some more phals with strong scents. Does anyone have any recommendations?

My Phal Cranberry Queen 'Regal' I got from Hausermann's is surprisingly strong scented. The blooms (only 3 of them) have really brought anice sweetish rose scent to the room I have them in. It only lasts from noonish to sunset, but it's strong none-the-less. I'm not sure if the scent comes from the venosa or the "cherokee chief" but worth looking into.

Hi Tucker, both Phal. Tying Shin Phoenix 'Ember' and Phal. Brother Pepride X Kuntratri Rarishati are fragrant with the latter very, very fragrant with its scent filling a large room when it had just one flower.

what type of fragrance is it? I love fragrant flowers but hate the 'citrus' aroma of some phals. I like me a sweet or spicy scent!

fishmommy, Phal. Tying Shin Phoenix 'Ember' smells cinnamony and Phal. Brother Pepride X Kuntratri Rarishati smells like jasmine. Also, Dtps. Cute Angel has a rose scent.

I, too, have this plant blooming right now and back up the scent-- it's amazing! Not the strongest scent but it is really pleasant.

Yup...Ember definitely has a scent-- especially in the morning during the "warming" hours-- you know... when you can really feel the heat of the day picking up. The scent can be pretty intense and will fill a room with the scent, easily.

Others I have that are strongly and nicely scented...

Purple Martin
Sunflower
Sogo Lawrence
Schill 'Lavender' (smells like a rose and though its a delicate smell, it will fill a room, too, really lovely).
Spot Eagle 'Montclair'-- a newer one but is very sweet

I'm propagating most of the above phals because they're such strong growers-- lots of blooms on lots of spikes, plus they smell great. Thank God for keiki grow!

Thats about it off the top of my head.

I thought I would point out that different people can perceive the same smell differently from one another, and that two plants from the same cross can have complete different smell, or lack of. There are some Phals. that are said to have a sweet smell, yet two people I know think it smell like chemicals. I am not trying to be a Debby Downer here (heard that from my teacher!) but I am just saying this in case you get disappointed by the fragrance or lack of it from a flower that was said to be fragrant, you will at least know now. The only way to ensure you have a fragrant flower is to get a meri-cloned one, but once again, here arises the different perception of smell. Ahhhh! I seem so negative! Sorry to do this, but I think the best way to get fragrant Phals. is to go to a nursery and pick them our personally, otherwise it is a gamble!
