Phalaenopsis stuartiana var. nobilis x Sedirea japonica Male
Default Phalaenopsis stuartiana var. nobilis x Sedirea japonica

Here's a couple of pictures of some flowers that almost didn't bloom. The spike was turning yellow and all the other buds dried up, I had to cut the part of the spike that was yellow. I think I had over-potted the poor plant. Nice flowers with Sedirea japonica-like smell, a little bigger flowers than Sedirea japonica. I've included a picture of my Sedirea japonica for comparison.

I've always been more into species, but that's actually a really interesting cross. How large is the plant?

PS out of curiosity, what type of general care do you give your japonica?

The plant has about a 12" leaf span and I have it in a 3" pot. I have my Sedirea japonica in spagnum and I treat it like a phalaenopsis, Intermediate conditions on a west-facing window with a couple of hours of direct light.

I water it less often in winter, because the sphagnum takes longer to dry, but I wouldn't say it gets a winter rest, and I don't fertilize it if isn't actively growing or flowering.
