We just use food coloring to have blue flowers on the next spike?

It looks as if there is some injection process into the spike itself. I would be surprised if it were any more sophisticated than a blue dye...but the vehicle carrying the dye could be something that facilitates uptake or spreading of the dye etc.

Cut flowers and/or spikes would likely absorb blue dye in water and do the same thing. But if you are leaving the spike on the plant, then you would need a specific means of delivering the dye into the spike. I doubt dye in regular watering would make it through the roots etc.

I would love to find one of these but have never seen them in my area. Never seen them at the orchid show at Longwood or the Philly Flower show.

Maybe you should make one yourself and share your results.

If I on knew how! Saw a pic today on a koi forum and fell in love. I usually go for the scented Phals, but this once was so blue, it was magical

Spring in South Florida is here!

Not sure if you can access the link, but if you can, scroll down to post #7. Seems I can't save the pic.

I don't know much about dyeing plants.. I know that it can be done on cut flowers and it works on dendrobiums.. but if you are planning on injecting the plant you might want to consider the possible damages that this kind of regular dyeing could cause. But if the plant isn't very dear to you, and you don't mind it getting damaged then I'm sure it will make an interesting science project!
Let me know how you get on.

I would much rather find a Blue Phal, that's if one exist, instead of a dyed one? Love the color I have seen in pics but from what I have read most with that color seem to have been dyed that way. Anyone actually see a natural blue or blue/violet that is close to blue?
