Phal. Penang Girl
Here are some pics of my new Phal. Penang Girl ( violacea x venosa) The whole plant,
The inflorescence,
A side spike that is developing,
And the bud that is developing,
I will update you all when the flower opens! I love novelty phals!! Even though this is my first one. . . for now at least!

The plant looks so healthy! I'd love to see the pictures of this bloom when the flower opens.

This is an awesome phal! I have one of these which I purchased about 3 years ago. It put out one spike in the fall of 09 and one in the fall of 10. Each each spike is currently taking turns making buds and opening flowers. Don't cut the spike once it is finished blooming and it should make flowers on that spike again next year! Good luck.

Hi,
I summer my plant outside from the end of May (night temps 17C) until mid Sept (night temps around 13C for a couple of weeks) in a bright shady spot where it usually grows one shiny, glossy leaf. It usually spikes within the first 2 weeks of October. It lives in an east window from Oct until the following May. The temp in that room is approx 15C at night and 20C during the day. The flowers this year have started opening in January and like I mentioned in my previous post, have been nonstop ever since! I hope that this info helps. Also, I don't know if scents are important to you, but when my plant blooms, it smells like hotdogs!

Okay, so here is a little teaser! This is a a photo that is three weeks after the ones you see above! You can already begin to see the bud start to color!

I plan on doing a cross with this as the pod parent and the Phal. ATL Crossing as the pollen parent. Knowing that one of the members of the society does flasking, I am going to ask them if they will flask it!
