Deformed new bloom on my Phal, Is this common?
I bought this Phal a few months back at my local Lowe's. They had marked the price down because the flowers had died and fallen off. In fact they weren't even in the bottom of the container, so I had no idea what color the flowers would be. It would be a surprise. The leaves on it were amazing and some were already over 12 inches long. I checked the roots and they appeared to be good, just needed a little water. I brought it home and repotted it, as I hate how Lowes tightly packs their orchids in so much sphagnum moss. (I already lost one orchid to their moss by waiting to repot because it was in bloom when I bought it.) Now it has a new spike and buds, but I noticed as it was budding that one bud was always a different shape than the others. It wasn't that normal round bulbous shape, it was long and slender, kinda resembled the shape of a chili pepper. Today, that bud opened and to my surprise it is deformed!!! It's the only one that has opened so far.
I took some pictures and want your input. I put 2 pictures of the flower from different angles and then some shots of the other buds so you can see their shapes.
The ones of the flower, it only has 2 petals, and then you will see this little short spike in the middle. Its really weird. Did I buy some mutant orchid?
