Default Blue Mystique Phals

I wouldnt have believed listening to all the talk about them being photo-shopped airbrushed etc etc..But these are Real Blue Phals..Not pure blue but airbrushed blue is all I can say..I thought they were fake at 1st . Then I see da price tag ouch...Couldnt afford one today and I bet tomorrow they are all gone...anyway just a link in case you are curious...Silver Vase launches blue orchid at TPIE

PS (Im not killin phals anymore, in fact have a 1st home grown spike ) might try me a few more...ohhhh I did already..ended up with 2 cheapies..still really nice plants fir the money

There was a long thread on this a month or so ago, maybe on one of the other forums. General consensus is they somehow use a dye, maybe in the plant's water. Definitely they don't grow this color naturally. You notice their web page refers to "Exclusive patented technology."

hydroponically grown with blue vegetable dye in the water hey?

or maybe an element added to the fertilizer that when it meets the oxygen in the air the blooms turn blue?

very strange looking to be sure...

very healthy plants whatever they have done...

maybe they crossed them with an eggplant?

Hey RJ, I haven't posted to you in a while!
Here's the link to BiB's tread in the beginner discussion forum, it's to do with an injection of silver solution:
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...-i-sucker.html

Oh, and cangrats on your first phal spike I *may* have my first paph bud but it's too soon/ small to tell (may just be a leaf), but I couldn't help thinking of you and yours when I looked at it!

silver solution..that makes sense knowing that if you get silver nitrate all over your fingers they turn purple and it doesnt wash off heh... we used silver nitrate as a chemical reagent for testing...

Well the truth be known we cant upload anything from a camera, cell phone, flash drive, etc etc etc from work computer anymore. I have no internet at home so I'm pretty much outside looking in.

grats on the paph too honey

i have some paphs that are blooming and soooo small..I thought that was pretty neat til i read that they getting too much light and maturing too early. Im zeroing in on making them big bunches of blooming paphs hedges

and the phals are doing miraculously well from a self annointed phal killer. Havent killed the last 5. I found sphagnum was good for them in my home if I learned how to water them properly. Got all kinds new roots and leaves. Have about 5 more new phal pals now that I feel more comfortable with them. And I will add that learning how to get the paphs going from here helped me alot with other orchids understanding their individual needs..
