Default A couple of purple Phals in bloom

I just can't capture the true colour of either of these. They are both a very dark deep purple colour which does not show in any of the photos.

The first is smaller than the second and I'm pleased it's flowering as it almost died of root rot a while back. The second is a much bigger plant and is one of the first I've tried in S/H (seems to like it).

The second looks paler than the first in the pictures, but in reality that's not the case. Most of each flower is just as dark as the first (darker than the pictures of either) but the center 'glows' paler and the whole flower has an almost 'neon' glow to it which just cannot show in the pictures.

I bought this second one for 50p. It had been discounted from £15 to £5.99, then down to 99p and then again down to 50p because all the flowers were dead. I knew it was purple when I bought it because there was a dead flower in the pot, but that dead flower didn't show just how much the live flowers 'glow'.

It's because it was a 50p NoID but seemed to have good roots and general health that I made it my first S/H experiment. I thought at first it was struggling but when I repotted after a couple of months in S/H I found it had masses of root growth, so I put it back in S/H and it's seems to be doing really well (as do my other S/H experiments so far).

Great looking blooms! I think I know what you mean about what color they are. My camera also has a lot of trouble with purple colors, they usually come out pinkish or very pale.

I noticed that the garden center near me has some cheap marked down noid phals, I think I'll copy you and get one to test in S/H. Got tall deli containers as pots (that I brought back from the US), got hydroton, so why not?

It is hard to capture the color on these. I think you did a great job. That wine/red/purple is hard to beat.

That's some gorgeous purple, Rosie. Both of them don't look like the "usual" purple phals. Beautiful!
