Cool table top grow station for phals

Hi all, I only put this thread here as I only grow phals (at least at this moment). Like most northerners, I have to consider falling light levels in the winter & since I still haven't found a grow set up that I can use (due to my mobilitiy issues). I found this set up in lee valley; here is the information: "The tabletop model is 50" x 19" x 24" tall. Requires two 48" bulbs."

My question is, if I place this on a table close to an east, north/east facing window with no shade cloth, will my phals continue to grow in the winter? I think the only problem might be the height from base to ballast.

Regards, m

Can you provide a link? or an image? It's hard to comment with this information. But in general, Phals are very easy to grow under lights. I see NO reason why a table top unit of some sort would NOT work. I agree that height may be an issue. You would need enough height between base of pot and the lights to accommodate both the entire plant as well as the inflorescence.

I've always thought these stands were nice, but kinda pricey.

I use T8's and CFL's, I like both! My t8's are shop lights - You can get both at pretty much any hardware store. Your phals will maintain good growth aslong as you keep the lighting source going.

I agree with Gloria. Why not make your own? The ones you link to are marvilous, but expensive. As a comparison you can get .: Sunlight Supply - horticulture and aquarium lighting systems :. Website the 4 foot 4 tube T5 fixture nthat I use much cheaper and I light an area 36"Wx20"deep by 32" high with shelves and a 4-tube fixture. I suspect you can rig up a stand with 2x2 pine that will hold the fixture over a table if you are at all clever.

Well unfortunately, I am not that clever with my hands and can't reach too far down to work with lower shelves due to my disability I also thought that I would grow in my living room so the stand should be at least a little pretty. i know the stands quoted are pricey, thats why i thought the table top would at least get me started.
