phal amabilis-inquiry on leaf health following repotting
Hi all, I repotted my amabilis about a month ago in a med. bark mixture & into a clear plastic pot. I have noticed the leaves seem to not be as stiff as you might expect for a phalanopsis. They are quite green (with no red) and the leaves don't look like they are starved for water (I have noticed on some plants if the plant needs more water than they are getting you will see the veins of the leaf). The plant is putting out roots & is growing a new leaf so I am not sure if I am not watering enough, or if things really are okay, I am just being overly cautious.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How is the light intensity? Did you move it, perhaps to a shadier spot than normal? They can take pretty bright light and mine get direct sunlight filtered through other plant leaves (ie. "dappled" light). Sometimes Phal leaves can appear limp especially when they get pretty big.

When I repotted mine in bark from sphagnum it also got limp and shriveled leaves. But they are recovering. It could be adjusting.

Hi Tin & Ross, the phal amabilis is in a really bright east window. In the spring/summer & fall, I get direct sun in the morning & reflected afternoon sun so light (at least now) isn't an issue. The only thing I can think of is that maybe I should be watering more. I check everyone over every day & decide who is getting watered that particular day. I just don't want to lose anyone to over watering. Ross, I am hoping the plant is just adjusting & the leaves will firm up a bit when it gets happier.

Hang in there. Sounds like everything's OK. Don't be tempted to overwater just cause you see limp leaves. I have killed Phals in the old days because of this. As Tin says, they'll probably adjust and come out of the doldrums just fine.

Sorry to jump in ... my computer just crashed and I'm not sure who had the inquiry about a phal having two very different flowers on the same plant. The answer is yes - best example of this is Phal. Golden Peoker 'Cat's Paw Magician' JC/AOS. It was commended for the'unusual phenomenon of two totally and exquisitely distict sets of flowers on separate inflorescences on the same plant; both inflorescences had flowers with familiar Golden Peoker patterns ... one inflorescence mirrored the 'Everspring' clone and the other the 'BL' clone. I haven't seen the actual plant but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words ...
If you can get to an AOS judging center, ask to see the slide otherwise you'll have to wait until it gets converted to digital and is available on the e-aos program.

Could be still adjusting. The new roots sounds very positive.
If you don't already ...... Put yourself a BB skewer in the pot, this can help guide the watering habits.
