The Phal Rush is On!

My solarium (first winter growing in our new house) is a great tool-- I'm able to grow phals really really well in the conditions it provides-- one thing being temp. I can very consistently keep the temps at prime temps-- 60-62 at night, 72-74 in the day. I read in a journal once that those temps yield the best colors, flower number and sizes and so on.

Well it's done the trick-- the phals are busting buds everywhere. To-date I have over 32 spikes-- one plant has four spikes that have also branched...most only one but quite a few have two as well.

Anyway, I'm excited to share the blooms with everyone!

The flowers you see here today are the direct result of things I've learned here. Thanks OB and OB members!



First time blooming-- hoping for better size, shape and form next year.

It's actually a NOID but I named it Monster because tip-to-tip it is over 2 feet wide and it is the one growing four spikes. This one is very light sensitive with its buds-- we had some snowy/stormy weather when a few buds opened and the light changed in the solarium, making the buds turn and are now inconsistent (instead of the beautifully lined up blooms). No matter, I still love this plant-- it was also my first orchid!


Kaleidescope just opened a bud but I decided to wait on the photo because she's growing 3 spikes-- the show will be spectacular!
