Re-potted with new spike...help!

Hello all, I was in the process of re-potting my Phal it stopped flowering about 2 months ago. Well while I was filling in the medium my husband points to the spike and says 'What is that?" She began a new spike at the last node! One of my other Phals are re-spiking and I left her alone but this one I didn't see until I was already in the middle of repotting. Any ideas to help her continue to spike? Or do you all think she will not continue growth from the trama? Pleas any ideas. I was soooo happy that I was able to get 1 of my 4 to re-bloom and now I may have ruined the second one. Please help.

You should be just fine. Phals don't usually have a problem being repotted in bloom and since your spike is still small, it should do better with the repot. Relax and enjoy.

Oh thank you for your reply. Reading through these threads I see so many people frustrated because they cant get their Phal to re-bloom so I was so happy to have 1 and now 2! Also when I was repotting it wasnt very invasive, I just trimmed 2 roots. They all looked great. On one of my othe Phals I just did a 'drop in' the roots were gorgeous...which brings me to a question...why are ppl against spag moss? the one I 'dropped in' had such full roots and green...they looked healthier than the ones I received in bark. Anywho Im gonna see if their is a spot to put pics of my babies on my profile.

I agree you should be fine. Especially as you said you didn't trim many roots. A small spike should not be a problem when repotting.

I have had one stall a tiny 'nubbin' which was hardly even a spike yet, but most of those I've repotted in spike havn't missed a beat.

The main reason against spagh moss is that it keeps too much water and degrades quicker than other potting media. A lot of growers use moss and do wonderfully with it. It really depends on your growing environment, and how often you water. Use whatever potting medium you are comfortable with and your plants will do fine.

I typically use a mix of raw fir bark, hardwood charcoal and coarse perlite. As you know you cannot control what they come in and since I received them in bloom I haven't had a chance to re-pot until after the flowering stage. That is why I was doing it last night. I guess spagmoss would be a problem for some. I don't water on a schedule like some do. I have over 30 plants and each have different needs so maybe that is why the on in spag moss was doing so well...I only watered when needed.
