Default Oops!! I broke my Phal's new spike!!

Ok, the thread title is a teeny bit mis-leading, I didn't exactly say 'Oops' but I'm too much of a lady to type what I actually thought!

I've just got home from work and I thought (since I'd been putting it off for a few days) that I'd put the stake in and start the spike on its journey upwards. Unfortunately, it seems as though my mind was still in my office and, just as I caught my thoughts drifting, I heard this tiny little snap and off it came about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom

I've never actually snapped one before and so I was wondering if anyone can tell me what I do now? Will it re-grow (there's one node left on the base)? or am I left waiting patiently for the next and vowing never to do these things after I've been at work!!

Thanks in advance x

it may re-grow. if the plant is healthy and it should either send out a secondary spike from the side, OR, it will send out a whole new spike.

good luck

Thanks - I do hope it has another go as you might expect. It's probably the biggest, most established phal I have. I guess I'm so disappointed as I was hoping to have it as a Christmas centre-piece and I can't believe I was so careless! Oh well, these things happen I suppose, so now I'll just keep my fingers crossed x

Hope it regrows for you Jenny. Sometimes they will get going with a new one quite quickly if one breaks. The plant is ready to spike so if the spike aborts it may still want to try again.

Thanks Rosie - I know it's only been a few days, so a bit soon to tell, but there's been no yellowing/ dying back of the spike so I'm keeping a eye on it. If I start seeing anything, trust me, there will be a big hooray post on here! x
