Thank you Nico .. coming from a photo artist as yourself, I am highly complimented!
The black background does makes the orchid colors stand out! .. I even used a dark brown wood background .. I found if I caught it at the right angle, it would shadow black behind the flowers. The only difficulty is the reflection of the flash, but that can also work for a shot. With the third photo above, the reflection fell on the spike tip which I though gave it a nice effect.

(I feel flattered. Too much for me)

I am tempted to talk about photography... But I'am afraid this is not the right place. However, we can talk a little bit about how to catch on camera an orchid.

Another one. Difficult to catch the red color. The flowers are purple, or something between purple and dark red... I don't know...

There is the Orchid Lounge forum we can discuss photography.
We should bring that up to Marty and perhaps get a separate forum started on Orchid Photography!
Beautiful hue on those Phals. I can see the red color in it with deep dark pink highlights. It's all in the lighting .. that is something that is still a challenge for me!

You deserve the compliment .. your photos are wonderful!

Where is Ross (aka rsfrid) when you need him .. he is professional !

Right here (just got back to computer from cleaning out the garden pond. I really don't think we have enough questions so far to justify a seperate forum area for something as specific as photography. I personally think the best way for most folks to learn is ask questions and for the more experienced to share what they have learned. I've been more than willing to do this, but as the pile of responses grows in the database, it becomes really hard to find specific responses that may have already been posted.

Another comment, more for Nico, I like the artistic feel of the images you have posted. I presume that is your regular style. I am used to documenting flower/plant detail that will be useful in publications. Moody doesn't sell very well, most of the time. I also prefer the images with the lightest backgrounds because they are not as under-exposed as the dark ones.

Nico, the color comes through just fine for me. I use a special color-corrected monitor (very expensive) specifically adjusted for my room lighting and color-controlled via a USB cable between the monitor and the computer. What I see on screen is what the image contains. Your image brings out the blood red/violet coloration just fine. Again, the background suites the flower.

Let's take Photo questions over to Orchid Lounge or even Off Topic rather than continue to hi-jack Nico's thread?
