I got my first Phal x. intermedia a year ago as a near bloom size. Since then, the plant has literally put on five new leaves, at least a dozen new crazy long roots, and it's first spike which is very long and had many flowers. All the flowers dropped a long time ago and I am now just left with the spike which is a healty green. Question. Should I leave it, cut to first node below flower, or cut to base. Since it is not dying back to the plant, like all my other Chids, I'm not sure what to do. Plus it is it's first spike. Do these guys make keikis? If so, do they grow at spike tip or after the spike is cut to a node? Thanks for all the help. I'm still learning. Cindy

I don't think you can do anything 'wrong' - if the spike is still green, it may branch or keiki, but it won't harm the plant if you cut the spike. Cutting down to a node MAY induce new buds or keikis. Cutting the spike won't harm the plant at all.

I don't have much experience with Phals tho -
