Default NoID Baldans Kaleidoscope look-alike flowering

I bought this orchid with just one flower left sometime last year. The spike has been developing for months now and the bud that produced this first flower was massive by the time it finally opened. I kept expecting it to open and all it did was grow bigger

I bought it labled Anthur Gold. Now it seems Anthur are notorious for not registering their hybrids and even then Anthur Gold is a pale yellow flower, nothing like this. See here

So this is a NoID but because it looks somewhat like BK I call it simply Kaleidoscope. I think mine has more speckling between the veins than BK. Anyway it may be a NoID but I am sooo pleased to see it come back in to flower for the first time for me.

I agree, there definitely is a labeling problem! But it's really gorgeous. How many giant buds did the spike give you?
No idea if it's a BK, and if it isn't it's really similar. If you're certain that it's from Anthura you can go through the online catalogue, but that won't help much since all their phals have trade names and not real registered names.

Thanks Camille, There was only the one massive bud but there are perhaps 8-10 buds spread over the main spike and a couple of side spikes.

Anthura have BK on their online catalog and they don't have anything else similar, but this came from a garden center labled Anthura Gold and I can't be 100% certain that it came from them.

I don't really mind. I had BK on my wishlist and I decided that this one would 'do for me'. It may not be the real thing but I love it anyway

Of course as the other buds haven't opened yet they could get to be as big as the first... although in my experience the first bud on a Phal is always the biggest.

Since the label's wrong it's very possible that the label fell out of another pot and someone stuffed it back into the wrong pot. So it might not even be from Anthura.

In cases like that, 'close enough' is good enough for me! You might have ended up paying a lot more for the real thing than whatever this one cost.

The label was actually a sticky one on the pot (there were also lots of others labled the same). The label was the garden center's one though and I'm guessing something like the garden center ordered one thing and they had run out so sent something different and the garden center labled it as the original.

It only cost me £2 because there was only one flower left. I had looked at them when they were £20 and absolutly wanted one, but we were on a really tight budget because we were both under threat of redundancy and I had to resit. Then I saw them reduced to £2 with either no flowers left or with one flower left and I picked out the healthiest looking plant (leaf growth and root growth visible) and was so pleased. Even more so now it has flowered again

It is a picturesque little guy. I do love the coloring even though it is a NoID.

Very pretty blooms. The kaleidoscope is one of my favorites.
