Izzie-- I wonder if the orchid place up in Longmont might know of a place to score one of these... what the heck is the name of that place? I've brain dumped it just now-- that tip-of-the-tongue syndrome. |
You thinking of Fantasy Orchids in Louisville? I don't know of any other large vendors in CO.
And yeah, chimerism is super awesome- particularly in horses. That's how you get the brindle types- or like my friend's horse, white on one side of the head and chestnut on the other- separated with a perfectly straight line going down the muzzle. |

I just emailed them..see if I get a response. |
They haven't been good about answering mine, unfortunately. My only complaint, aside from occasionally bad roots.

lol too true! Their selection and greenhouse are very impressive, and they're willing to give you divisions from their private collection. But with the way that they grow, roots suffer once they get into a windowsill at home. That's not to say that their plants are bad quality. Great prices if you visit!

Are there any other orchid greenhouses in CO? I haven't found any that are somewhat near me that aren't wholesale.

BTW-- I emailed the publisher of the book to see if they can get in touch with the author, as he is apparently the photographer of this Spanish Dancer Phal. So we shall see. |
Instead of hijacking, I'm PMing you. :)
Great news about the email! It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. Wouldn't it be cool if they could make a brindle phal? It's just another form of chimerism- which I suspect is what a harlequin is? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I mean, look at these patterns- http://www.homozygous-horses.com/brindle02.jpg http://www.whitehorseproductions.com...ra_brindle.jpg This second stud is lucky enough to have a nifty color AND decent conformation. (his rear could be a little better, bad pic angle...here is his page: http://www.dunbarsgold.com/) :blushing: Still ended up hijacking, sorry you don't mind. |
Interesting Izzie that a brindle stud will throw paint offspring. :scratchhead: LOL not like I know anything at all about horse breeding. ;)
