I think you're going to have to tell me, cuz I sure don't have a clue!
Can't wait to hear all the responses!!! Looks like some kind of a spike, but the plant has a pseudobulb and yet you've got it on the phal forum....you have stumped me.

The spike looks somewhat phal like...although that sheath isn't like a phal I've seen

The spike is from a phal; the pseudobulb is in the background. Maybe a red or purple flower?

Both photos have phalaenopsis in the foreground. Although it looks like a flower bud, the first photo is a very early inflorescence; the little leaf-like sheath will flatten and perhaps even disappear as the inflorescence lengthens. The second photo is an inflorescence that is a bit more mature. Actual flower buds are visible. Hope that the spike continues to elongate and that there is more room between the buds so the flowers aren't bunchy.

I was expecting something exotic and didn't recognize the phalaenopsis spike. I feel so shameful!
