Hi all! I've been wanting to get a phal that will bloom profusely with large flowers... I saw this one and was so in love... I love the coloring on the leaves... which reminds me of my paph.

If you were to "invest" in one (with the hopes that you wouldn't have to wait too long for it to be stunning) and money was no issue, would you get this 6 inch one with a more open top petal or this one at big leaf, or is there perhaps an even better link or source that you have found that you could tell me about?

I tend to favor the ones with a tighter petal appearance like this, as opposed to this more open appearance here. I guess the difference is a straight phal. schilleriana, vs. a schilleriana v. pururea.

Would love to hear your thoughts, and or even other suggestions!

Smiles!

Wow. The big leaf phal is amazing! Not sure I'd be willing to pay the price, but what a specimen. As between the two, that one gets my vote.

I love that one too.. the flowers and the coloring on the leaves are beautiful! I'm thinking I'll save up for it and reward myself for something... so I'll have to get to work on some projects on my list so that I'll have an excuse to buy it

thanks for your input... )))

I like them both, but judging from the links you provided of what you prefer, I think you should go for the one at Big Leaf Orchids. I personally like the one at Orchids Limited better, but that is just my preference!

If you like P. schilleriana's foliage, I bet you'd really like P. stuartiana- which is equally floriferous and hardy.
Phal stuartiana (short stem) [B8-19] - $135.00 : Big Leaf Orchids, Fragrant and Novelty Phalaenopsis
Hauserman's has two beautiful ones for much cheaper than BL- Orchids By Hausermann
Or get crosses of schilleriana and stuartiana from Orchids Limited! My dream phal. and their stuartiana is spectacular as well.
Orchids and Orchid Supplies

Both species are rewarding and easy growers- and very floriferous- and awesome mottled leaves!

I would highly recommend getting one that is fragrant. I was fortunate to get a nice one that is fragrant and smells just like roses. Fragrance is like the cherry on top of the sunday .

I prefer the rounder, more filled out shape of the Big Leaf clone. About fragrant schills .... even if they are sold as being fragrant there's no guarantee that any particular plant will be fragrant. Kind of a crap shoot. Make sure you have plenty of room for this baby. It gets BIG!
