Default Phal. George Leather (George Vazquez x Leather)

Got this one from Big Leaf Orchids in late March 2010. It came in flower, which died shortly after I received the orchid. I assumed that the relocation shock caused the the flower to drop quickly.

I was a little bummed as I really did not get to appreciate the flower and thought that I would have to wait until next year before I could enjoy the flower. Lo and behold, the spike continued to grow (guess the orchid likes my culture) and began pushing-out a bud about a month ago. I was surprised that it took so long for the bud to fully-develop, but what do I know!

Shouldn't have to wait long now....

Excellent news, great growing.

It looks like this might be a sequential blooming one, so although you lost the last flower the spike was still happy and has just carried on with the next flower.

Wow! Solid red flower with magenta lips Looks like it's going to throw out more flowers for you on the spike

Any idea if Big Leaf Orchids sold this as a cross or a clone??

Yes, pretty much solid red with a nice magenta lip.

It is a stem prop, so yes a clone.

Nice! Very solid plant!

One thing to highlight though, the leaves of your phal looks a little too yellow, and is there a drainage for your pot?

Personally prefer the joy of being unexpectedly surprised by what hybrids can bring

The leaves do have a yellowish hue to them, I agree.

That is the way the plant came from Big Leaf, so maybe it is genetic and not culture. Orchid seems to be real healthy.

I guess that's the case! If it's due to shock from the shipment then it will turn green from the next leaf onwards
