I bought this plant last fall. It has grown well under lights and now is outside in shade. It has grown a large keiki and I want to know if i should cut the keiki off or leave it. it has thrown up 2 spikes on the other side and shoudl flower within 2 weeks. if the keiki shoould be cut off how far down should I cut. the pictures are posted in my gallery for you to view.
The keiki grew from the 1st apike. I have checked the roots and they are very strong and growing good. I will have to stake the keiki spike up as it is starting to droop. thanks for the advice.
Looking at your pics I would say its time to pot the keiki in its own pot.
Cut just below it on the spike or you could cut the whole spike off and let the plant put its energy into the other spikes on your plant.
You shouldn't have any problems with the roots as they are in their growing phase right now (thats if the pic is current) just don't keep whatever medium you choose too wet and you should be fine.
Good growing BTW.

I'm new at this and could totally be wrong. The keiki looks good to cut off and pot. It has some really healthy looking roots.
However, the parent plant looks like it's not very happy. Looks like one of the leaves is ruffled/rippled/pleated along the edges. Is that a sign of not enough water?
Sorry if I'm wrong on that one.
