Great find Amanda! I too love the green on the new petals. Great combo of white and burgundy! My granny's phal that just bloomed also has that hint of green on the new petals. Happy repotting!
Louise, while repotting risks the flowers dropping, many people here prefer to do it anyway to make sure the plant will survive long term (mainly that the roots don't rot). I tend to leave them personally and risk it, but I do worry until I can get them repotted.
are you re-potting while it's in bloom? won't the flowers fall off?, I'm still really new to all this so ignore me if I'm asking stupid questions
Louise - I have re-potted some phals in bloom that didn't mind at all, and another that did drop a few blooms, but the buds it had went on to open. Mostly I wait til orchids are done blooming to repot, but phals always seem to be potted in packed sphag and I always rot the roots that way, so I repot those as soon as possible.
Thanks guys! I typically re-pot when I get a new plant, in bloom or not. I have not lost any blooms from doing that. The one time I didn't re-pot, my Sharry Baby, the plant suffered root rot. I am still trying to bring her back to life. I think I will be able to save her, I seem to have a knack for reviving the dying ones.
