The word 'peloric' refers to any change in the appearance of the flower different from what one would normally expect. As you know the flower of the orchid will usually have 3 sepals and 3 petals, one of which has become specialized to form the labellum or lip. Sometimes through natural events or chemically induced events, the 2 remaining petals can change in form and "look" like the lip; this can happen to various degrees. Notice how the 2 lateral petals on the purple flower posted above have, what appear to be, yellow markings that "look" like the lip.

Thanks. I think I understand. Are there varying degrees of peloric?

Yes. Some just have a small pinching of the petal as with this flower, which some will call "semi-peloric".

While others look like a flower with 3 lips!
