Phal. lobbii buds yellowing - why?
Default Phal. lobbii buds yellowing - why?

I need advice from growers who have Phal. lobbii. Roots, leaves and some inflorescences on my plant appear healthy and vigorous, but the buds on a few inflorescences are turning yellow. What's the problem?

Wow, it could be a lot of reasons. Or it could just be one of those "stuff happens" situations. What temperatures has the plant experiences while in bud? Have there been changes from day to night temps? What sort of light does the plant receive? How is the humidity around the plant's growing area? How do you water the plant? Have you changed any conditions for the plant since it went into bud? Has it bloomed successfully under the same conditions previously?

I know that's a lot of questions, and I'm sorry. The bottom line is that, yes, these things do happen but if the plant is healthy and the roots are good you'll get flowers next year.

Thanks. Yes, it could be a multitude of things. I'm suspecting that it's a dramatic drop in temp, even though several other of my phal species in spike seem unaffected.

Some are more sensitive than others to temperature variations. My Phal. leucorrhoda blasted every bud while all of the other Phals. (about 15) around it are still fine.

(Wow, this is my 1000th post. How cool.)
