mini mark, new spike stopped growing? Male
Default mini mark, new spike stopped growing?

My sweet mini mark have been spiking for ages, it have not grown 2mm - that can be wrong with him?
I use fert and some superthrive, roots looking strong and well - i just topped his pot with some spag, only a littel around the top of the bark

Hard to say with sparse information about how you grow it. How long do you have it? How much light does it get? I what window do you culture it? Do you use artificial light? What are the day and night temperatures? Did you change location just before it spiked, or maybe after it spiked...

Why are you giving it Superthrive?

And how large did the spike get before stalling. Some phals start a spike and right afterwards seem to have a change of heart about what they are doing. I have one phal doing that. It has a teeny weeny spike that has been sitting there for the last 2 months. If it's a much larger spike, there might be something in your conditions that it doesn't like. I have a Mini Mark as well, and its spikes are extremely slow to get started. Once they start really going, they go fast! 3 spikes on mine this year, 10 buds each so far, and just starting to bloom!

I'd stop using Superthrive while it's trying to develop a spike. It has been know to cause problems with flower development.

Mine is just starting 2 spikes. It's never stalled on me, just takes it's time. It's right under a T5 so gets more light than most people give their Phals.

There may be a problem with your culture for it to stop growing altogether. In order to figure it out we'll need to know what your growing conditions are.

Hi Erce,
you could switch to a fertilizer that is more like 20-20-20, or at least less in Nitrogen. Maybe that will help it... Maybe it's just patience that you need....
How much light does it get? North, East, West, South? Did you change location? It easily could take South now.

I agree with Blueszz about the fertilizer. A bump in the middle number (phosphorus) and a decrease in the first number (nitro) gives most phals what they need to get those spikes going and blooming. Remember, nitrogen is used in plants to promote green growth (such as leaves)-- phosphates are used for not only healthy roots but strong flowering (and in some cases seed and fruit production).
