Default Dtps. Minho Princess 'Watercolor Artist' pattern

I have a question regarding the pattern on the petals of my Minho Princess 'Watercolor Artist'. So far what I have seen online shows the edges of the petals with strips. Mine has those strips on the rear petals.

Does it take several bloomings for the true pattern to show up??

Thanks Sheridan

I'm afraid I don't know the answer, but it does look different to the ones I've seen. Hmm

Minho Princess usually has a lot of purple striping on both the petals and the sepals. Sometimes a first bloom of a plant can be a bit different than subsequent bloomings, but if yours has bloomed previously, and looked pretty much like this, then it's likely that what you see is what you'll always get. It's a lovely flower, though!

I think the 'splash' effect is a bit unpredictable and can appear or not from year to year so i think you might still get it next year.

P.S. is that a lateral branching spike i can see in the photo lower down? If it is it may well flower with the splash mutation

Hey Sheridan, you should be happy that you have a Minho Princess. I killed mine and I am still upset about it! So for now I'll just drool over yours

Thanks everyone for your comments I guess I will just have to wait and see . As far as I can tell this orchid has not bloomed before. No sign of any old spikes are visible. Sorry to hear about you loosing yours Doc. If mine ever gets a keiki its yours....

There are actually 3 spikes with one small side spike and of the 2 blooming (10 flowers) the 3rd has two buds on it so I am hoping and .

Curious on the one spike what looks like a leaf what's your opinion???

Thanks Again - Sheridan

Sheridan, don't hold your breath with regards to that "leaf"... it could be dangerous...LOL It is just a flower bracket that has lifted from the spike.... sometimes I think the plant gets a bit confused as to creating a flower or a keiki. Also, sometimes a secondary spike may arise from that area which will push the sheath off the spike.

Hey Sheridan,

The clone Minho Princess 'Flying' has the subtle striping and picotee. I had never seen the 'Watercolor Artist' but it may just be how it looks. The pattern and coloring is variable depending on culture, but I've never seen an all white variety. I like it.
