Thanks for the link... Philadelphia is from the same people, looks like they name all their Phals after cities around the world.
It's annoying because you can't breed with it without knowing its name I hate this 'Trade name' stuff, i wish they would keep the RHS registered name and just protect the cultivar name or something.
I hate it too, but that's the way it is! A reason for using trade names is that the name itself is protected, and can't be used by competitors. I guess it's a marketing strategy. In the case of a cross that's actually registered, anyone can sell a Phal Wiganiae, but only they can market Phal Philadelphia, even though it's the same thing! I've tried emailing these companies about this practice, and either I get no reply or an email that essentially says "this is none of your business." I'm assuming that at least the dutch growers would file for 'Plant Breeders Rights' variety protection, so I'll try to access the database for some information.

I also tried to contact Anthura with several questions. Some of their hybrids clearly show that species are used to breed them - but it's not always easy to tell which species is used, sometimes the names in the database (which is different from the commercial name reveals something about the parents of the Phal.).
I called them with, what I thought, is a very reasonable question. I wanted to know which species was used in this hybrid because I wanted it to optimize the care. At first I was told the person didn't know. I asked to connect me with the person who could answer my question and got answered that this person wouldn't be pleased with this kind of questions. Surely he had better things to do.
I should have answered "let me find out meself if he doesn't like this question" but the person on the phone was very weary and annoyed. He thought I was a breeder/had my own nursery and said they don't share the information. Getting info from Anthura is difficult, maybe even impossible.

Almost a year ago a professor gave me the name of an ex student who works at Anthura as a breeder, since I wanted info on what a career in orchid breeding was like. I also asked him about phal parentage, but he couldn't give me any information. Apparently its company policy (I think they even have a clause in their contract) not to reveal info on breeding lines.
