I don't think Be Tris hybrids are really known for their scent. There must be a few crosses that are a little bit fragrant, but mine and the ones i've come across is garden centers don't smell at all.

Yes it did come from Sainsbury's. It's in a really flimsy pot with only one hole in the bottom. I actually still have it in sphag but I pulled a bunch of it out to give the roots some room, and just put it back in... it was only in bud at the time and I was worried about losing them. Now the sphag dries out better between watering.
I might be having olfactory hallucinations with the smell... it's so faint I'm never sure if I'm imagining it or not!
I'll post a pick when I get home - I think it's very similar.

Mine came with a more standard green plastic pot as well as the flimsy polythene one. (The flimsy one was just slotted into the green pot). Maybe that had gone missing at your Sainsbury's.

When I repotted I just used a bit of bark I left over from one I repotted at the weekend and put it in the green pot.

There really was far too much sphag in there for the roots to ever breath. I think you did a good thing to remove some of it. I decided to take the risk of a full repotting because I really don't like Sphag, I'm just hoping the buds don't blast now

Mine had the green plastic pot aswell, I think. It'll be buried under the sink now with all the others I don't have a use for. I think one of our garden centre recycles them... might drop them in!
Hope your buds are all fine... keep us posted!

Phalaenopsis Anthura Buenos Aires is the name of yours, I have good memory! I know your plant better than you do

But Anthura sells several that look like that, I went through their entire catalogue once.

I've found out before that the names Anthura gives are generally not registered names AND the name you get on the pot does not neccisarily match their catalog.

I bought an 'Anthura Gold' a few months back and it does not look anything like 'Anthura 'Gold' on the their website. It looks more like a Baldans Kaleidoscope but I don't think it's that either.

When I buy one as a NoID, like this one, I don't mind it being a NoID. When I buy one thinking it's got a name I'm a bit disapointend when I find it's a nonsence name.

Rosie- From what I remember the big breeding companies develop their own varieties, or use existing crosses, but they always give the plants trade names, and rarely register anything. For example, Nicole and I have a Phal who's proper registered name is Phal Wiganiae, but it was sold under the name Phal Philadelphia. I think it's mostly to keep competitors from figuring out exactly what they are growing.

But I agree, sometimes the catalogue photo is wrong. I was just checking one such catalogue a few weeks ago, and one of their plants is Beallara Peggy Ruth Carpenter (which I have)but the photo that goes with it it not that at all.

IMO,trade named plants are basically fancy NOIDs

Nothing to add at all... and yes, mine most likely is Buenos Aires :-)

In the case of my 'Anthura Gold' I don't think it was the catalog which was wrong, but the lable on my plant.

All descriptions anywhere of 'Anthura Gold' are like the catalog pic. Mine is something else

I don't really mind though... it's a really pretty flower, and I've accepted it's NoID status now.

I agree that trade named orchids are just fancy NoIDs. It won't stop me buying them if the price is right, just so long as I know that that's what I'm getting.
