Isn't it kinda strange that it would mutate to look exactly like the plant next to it?

I would say your yellow/red bloom will fade to white/purple over time. The color pattern is more or less the same.
Lots of white or cream flowers open a little yellow. A little more light could easily produce that extra punch of color in the new flower.

Fascinating! But "normal"? I don't think anything to do with orchids is normal!!!

It's beautiful and I like the last bloom even more than the white/purple ones :-)
I think it has to do with slightly different light levels and temps when the bud grew.
BTW I have purple Phal with bits of white in the center but that white starts as yellow, getting white over time.
I know temp can influence flower color, in Christmas cactee it's very obvious in my white one. If the temperatures get below x F, they are pink-ish, otherwise plain white. Maybe something like this is happening with your Phal too?

I was also thinking that it might be due to temperature or light. One of my phals did something like that. It started blooming in a darker place, and the first bloom was a big greenish and the markings where more prononced. I moved it into the sunlight and the other blooms looked very different!
