That's a name! I'll get some pictures up here soon. It's a tiny little guy. But it has a long spike with 4 buds on it. They seem like they are about a week away from opening. I'm going to repot the plant into a very airy and open plastic basket after reading some info I found on the internet about this one. They come from the Phillipines. The pictures I found abut them show pure white flower with pink spots on the lip and slightly beyond. The tag says, "Excellent pink with spots." That sounds different than white with pink spots.

Hmmmm... I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Congratulations - this is what you have to look forward to in the near future.

WARNING - species Phals are very addicting

Are the spikes always that brown color? I saw another photo and it too had the brown spike.

Yes they are. I have quite a few Phals with brown spikes, not the green you always associate with them.

Congrats Chas! I love stuartiana and hope to get my own "soon" (as in "soon as the weather warms up"). Can't wait for your blooms to open so you can show us!

Brooke, that is an excellent selection you have. I love the ones with that heavier spotting on the lower petals. Does the spotting develop more as the plant matures, or is it just the variability between plants?

I was wanting to order from a vendor whose picture looked just like yours, Brooke, then I found a much cheaper large seedling at another place and their picture was not quite as nice, but still wonderful. THEN I was offered a free one and I don't care what it looks like, as long as it looks like stuartiana! What can I say, the price is right! I just love stuartiana! (and most other species phals!)

Free is always the best price! Nice job in waiting it out.

Yeah, I'm hoping mine looks as much like Brooke's as possible. That is awsome! dude...

And here are some pictures of the newbie after repotting it.

Hopefully in about a week or so we'll see what the blooms look like!

I just love those leaves! I'm crazy about them. That's at least half the reason I want stuartiana. I love orchids, but some of them are a little boring when they're out of bloom. Stuartiana keeps the show going with those amazing leaves!
