I knew that would get your attention .
I ment Phal. bondage
This is what I do if a spike is comming up under a leaf tie the leaf up then position the plant so spike gets over head light when tall enough the spike is staked . Don't forget to untie leaf once it is clear. or you get a funny looking leaf . . Gin

Once mature it does not seem to be a problem , would not try it if it was a tender not mature leaf.

Oh my gosh keeping us moderators/admin's attention huh Gin ...good job and I think we all passed the test, just that I am slower, cable is acting up so I tail the crew.
But that is a great idea, have my phal in this same position but wish I would have known/thought about it 2 weeks ago...still gonna try it because I am still dealing with it hangin' out straight...tks again...

Got my attention
Well, that worked! We're all checking out your post
You don't find that when you untie the leaf it pushes the spike? How long would the spike need to be?

Since we're talking about hints to make our 'chids look their best, here's one I learned from a professional grower/friend:
To make all blooms stand out on their own instead of crowding each other, you can "train" them using little bits of cotton. Just tuck a little piece between the buds/blooms. After a few hours, you'll see a slight difference...if you need more space, do it again with a little more cotton. DO NOT force them into postion, the cotton will gently nudge them into the direction you want.
I've done it, and it works.
The key is little bits at a time until you reach your optimal goal.

Right on Sue, I do that to little spikes , right now it is a Baptistonia the Spag. settled in the basket putting the plant to low , I put cotton under the spikes , also works on trapped spikes on the intergenitics .
About the question from Lin hopefully the spike will change direction making it go up instead of straight out , works sometimes . Sometimes not .

Gin, I've had pretty good luck with Phal spikes by turning the pot so that spike is growing away from light. This makes it bend in other direction (phototropism) and I keep doing this till the spike starts to set the flower buds. After that cease turning it since the flowers may open upside down if you keep turning it!
