I was just studying my new phal with the dual spikes this morning, and noticed that the bloom on one of the spikes has some little yellow things on it that the blooms on the other spike don't have.

See the two yellow dots almost like eyes on this one?

These two don't have that - the center piece is all white on them.

Does this have anything to do with there being two spikes? Why would the one bloom have these extra little growths on it?

Thanks!

It looks like the pollen cap got knocked off on the first picture, and the two orange spots are the pollen sac things I think. Unfortunately blooms that have had the pollen cap knocked off usually don't bloom as long...

Ahh. I did notice a little white cap in the pot...that must be what it was. Oh well - there are still a few more buds ready to bloom, so it will still look nice for a while!

Could they be scale? I just found some scale hiding on a spotted flower, so they're on my mind. If it's scale a little ivory liquid and they'll slide right off.

It definitely looks like pollen sacs. I just repotted them, and another cap came off of another one of the blooms! This particular plant must have loosely attached pollen caps.
