Hello All,
I recieved an orchird for Mothers Day I'll send a pic soon. The name is :
Phal. Mlva Smartisslmo x Canberra would like to learn all about this Beauty.
I believe the name is Phal. Miva Smartissimo x Canberra. This is a fairly common Phalaenopsis hybrid that is very easy to cultivate. Medium light, keep it evenly moist, and remember, don't cut off the old flower spike when its done blooming, they will usually reflower off the old spike.

That's a good tip with the flower spike. Unfortunately I learned that after the fact

I did that with my hubby's Psychopsis papillo aka Oncidium Papillo. He was a little PO'd. I learned the hard way. I had to go out and buy him a new one. :<) Barb
I have a very healthy, but nonflowering phal. I've heard that I have to place the plant in a cool environment for 2 weeks to stimulate a flower spike. Can I do this anytime? Any other advice?
Maria, cooling down is key and of course fertilizer. If its in your house put it in a bout 50 or 60 degrees for about 2 or 3 weeks. Then being it to a warmer place. Barb
