Default The wait is over...finally found replacement Phal.

Two years ago I lost my all time favorite Phal. to a quick spreading black spot that appeared on the outside of the crown. Within 3 days, the plant was gone. I immediately replaced it by spending double the price and paying $30 for shipping and the plant came from Miami, 40 miles from here but I wanted it replaced. It was in spike...a rotting spike...cut the spike down and when I unpotted it, I discovered that the only healthy roots were the aerial ones. The vendor offered to replace it for free (but no refund) but would charge me the $30 for shipping it, again. No deal. The plant survived but the leaves were limp then and never fully recovered. It hasn't spiked since.

Yesterday I went to Lowes to see if the Toulimnias were stocked as Dave mentioned in another post. Couldn't find any but I was close to WalMart and stopped by to see what was doing in the nursery.

There was my replacement...FINALLY!

And I couldn't pass up this cute NoID (Pic 2). I have the same one, only peloric, it's spike growing now. (The peloric pic is from last year).

I'm happy you managed to find it again! It must have been horrible to watch the original one go downhill so quickly. I can see why you love it, the spots on it are just perfect!! . I got a keiki off my favorite phal, so if one day something happens to the original, I still have a backup of it.

As for the second ones, it looks it might be Baldan's Kaleidoscope, that one is really common. Unless it's something else that looks the same.

Love your new babies! The Golden peoker x Brother fancy is really nice!

As to your original one that still has limp leaves and isn't doing anything..........try S/H with it. I recently did this to one of my Phals. that was 'stuck' (wasn't doing anything but sitting there with limp leave) and within 2 days the leaves had perked up and the overall appearance of the plant had improved.
My thought was since it's not happy anyway I might as well "kill it or cure it". Fortunately it looks like I might have cured it.

I can definitely see why it was your favorite too! I would love to have one like that someday! Your other new baby is beautiful too. I'm so happy for you!

Congrats on finding your replacement!
And that other one! I wouldn't be able to pass it up, or your peloric one!

Golden Peoker x Brother Fancy is Brother Redland Spots.

FYI, Chesterfield Orchids has one they are offering for $8. I've been eyeing it.

Pine Ridge Orchids also offers Br Redland Spots.

That's a great idea, Al, thanks! I'm going to transfer it tomorrow. I've tried everything and like you say, "kill it or cure it" at this point, makes complete sense.

Thanks mehitabel. Yes, Pine Ridge has been growing this and selling it to all the other nurseries for resale, for years which is probably where the one I found at WalMart, originated from. They're the nursery I bought the first replacement from that was in trouble before I unpacked it. I'll check out Chesterfields too though....I wouldn't mind another one.

Camille, I also think the other is a Baldan's Kaleidoscope but without the tag, it's a NoID!....but again, I think you're right. They're all over Florida now and Baldan Orchids is in Miami.

Sandy, I vote for Baldan's K. Phal Sogs Fireworks has a "similar" look but I think you can see the differences...

Holy moly, Doc....another of your gorgeous Phals that you're not gloating about!!! (Howard, I couldn't refrain from that after all the ribbing you gave me in your other thread.)

Nope, not 'Orange Delight' but I think I want one now! Outstanding as always, Doc!

Sandy, I love it...it makes coming back here soooo much fun. I truely look foreward to things like this...it makes my day more than the flowers...thank you

And your other flower made me run out to the GH only to realize I have the same beauty....thought mine was a NOID and I now had a name....
