Gread thread and great info! Thank's Sandy for getting it started, and thanks to everyone who replied. I'm still learning about keikis... and am getting ready to pot up my first one off of a phal... then it's on to a den.

I like your rule of 3 Claude, my phal keiki meets the requirements, so it looks like I'll be doing some potting this weekend!

Hi everyone...
I have 3 leaves and 3 roots of 3 inch long......
Where do I cut the spike that is how far up to the crown of the mother plant to set my keiki.
Should I put my keiki in a basket, pot or mount it and what precautions do I need to take.
This is the first time that I would be transplanting a phal keiki.....help please
Many thanks.....

If you are through with the spike, i.e., not going to keep it any longer, cut it off at the base.....down near the base of the plant.
Then, cut off the keiki, just above and just below where it is on the spike.
I'd plant the keiki in S. moss until it gets more roots and looks like it is going to "take". Then pot it up as you usually would.

Fine bark also works very well. I used that for my keiki. I also noticed for mine that it's better to take it easy on the watering until new roots appear, since the existing roots are not used to living in the more humid pot environment. I was watering it like a normal phal, and was starting to see rot.
