Yeah, doubtful, but I do wish they would start carrying them around here (and name them around you!). I have heard of such neat orchids being found at HD...I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!

I'm not changing the tag in my Dtps Leopard Prince ( which is in spike right now) until it goes into a show ( and our show isn't until March)! I haven't changed the tag on my Schomburgkia tibicinus to Myrmecophila either!!

Nope not an exec but working within the garden department, it all depends on your ordering associate or host buyer "corporate." Suggestively, call your local HD and let them know your interests and they will or at least should accommadate your request or have a reason as for why they do not carry orchids. As for no names/no tags....its all in the vendor, vendor's mass produce and the last thing on there mind is naming the little guys (cost effective ), the only thing on there minds is force bloom (HD will not accept plants that are not in bloom), quantities to the buyer and delivery date. Our particular store has been known to release vendors due to falsely naming and or no name chids. It also helps that myself and our ordering associate are orchid growers.
In some cases it all depends on whether or not a local vendor is willing to bid on the buy, if the price is not negotible, meaning keeping the price down to the buyer in return not raising the price for the consumer than it will be profitable and worthy to keep it a stockable item. Our HD have a buyer/seller scale in which they can play with, not so sure about others, the only way to verify this is if the small 2-4 inch pots are under $15.99 and the larger pots are under $29.93. This does not include vanda baskets, these are almost all the time a special host buy which come out of Calif.
Just my 2 cents worth...

It will be worth it to get the reason behind it. If you call or go by update this thread, I would be curious as to the reasoning behind it. Orchids are among the top sellers next to angel plants (miniture indoor plants). Also food for thought...vendors do weekly exchange buy-backs...no excuse.... Good Luck...

Schomburgkia is so much more of a better name, not just 'cause it is easier to say either! It just sounds better.

Yikes....I agree Dave that I cant' get my tongue around the new name for Schomburgkia.
In regards to HD, our stores charge $23.95 for a 4" pot. MOST are unnamed but every once in a while you luck into a named one. Our HD has never brought in any orchids except Phals. Our Wallyworld brought in Dendrobiums and Phals years ago, but none in the last 5 years. Our local supermarkets are the best source for orchids but again, only Phals and very rarely named.

Cheryl, not all of us will be lucky enough to find orchid growers working for HD garden dept. I hope people appreciate you.

Thanks Tindo it has made me the go-to person with the orchid questions. Just wish I had the answer for the HD's that have nameless chids. Gosh forbid if we had all our other bloomers nameless, names are a given with their identity and so different with the wide orchid varieties. Even though we see no-names they are still admired and purchased by all orchid lovers...there's your sign .
