Uh oh, I think herf and I have a lot in common! Ha ha! Thanks for all the responses! I had seen a picture of a Phal. Amabilis but wasn't sure cause it was sold to me as a mini and the flower blooms on mine are about the same as my other Phal. Thanks again everyone.

My first two orchids were white like yours pictured , no name tags on them either . I still have them and the flowers are so huge on them. I think they maybe about 6 years old now . They are beautiful.

The amabilis species flowers are smaller than ths big hybrids - compact and just as beautiful for us windowsill addicts!

Hi Christina, i just got back from my local Safeway store and had to "walk" out of there with 2 Phals. They have been forced each in a 3 inch pot so they look kind of nice in their pots since the blooms look so much bigger, but i wonder how easy is it going to be to look after them properly? When it comes time to change the medium, a person will have to gently dig out whatever moss they can get and put new moss in. I wonder if i could pull as much moss out as possible and grow the plant semi hydroponically? One of the ones i got looks like yours and i am pretty sure its the Phal amabilius. The other looks like pictures i've seen on the Phal minho princess, but its true, in the end you have to rely on the grow tags to be 100% sure (or tissue analysis if your rich).

This is Phal. amablis from OL green house and it's definitely not small....maybe there's different form of amabilis out there. Thi is about as big as the standard white hybrid out there.

Phal Amabilius - size
Hi Blackorchid, i know Amabilius is or can be a larger plant but I think the intent of these plants is to keep them in a 3 inch pot and change the medium around them. I am not sure if i am going to keep them this way although it makes the flower spray look HUGE!!
I don't think you can properly look after a plant that has its feet too cramped because I don't know how you can check the root condition without cramming the plant back in the pot.

Actually, I'd rather cramp them into a pot because I have a tendency to "over water" plants, especially if they're in moss. Everybody is different though.

Vinh - your plant looks more like a philippinensis - the petals are wider than in the amabilis I have seen...
