Default Phal. lobbii vs. parishii?

Howdy, folks!

As a birthday present, my mom got me a gift certificate to Oak Hill (WOOHOO!) And in the short burst of spring-like weather we had a few weeks ago, they were able to send me my order!

One of the 'chids I ordered was Phal. parishii. Imagine my surprise when I received it and it had two nice spikes on it. (Leaves were a little roughed up, but oh well.)

This morning, one of the buds began to open! And again, imagine my surprise to see what you see in the photos below. This is probably lobii and not parishii, right?

The two flowers are quite similar, but the lip certainly looks more like that of lobbii than parishii. Both are wonderful little plants, though, so I personally would be happy to have the lobbii!

Parishii has a mauve/purple mark on the lip not brown like lobbii. Yours looks like lobbii to me. Send Oak Hill a picture of the blooming plant. They're really good about making things right.

Thanks, guys!

John...yeah, lobbii is pretty cute. But I have to say, I like the purple lip of parishii much more.

Terri...thanks for the word of encouragement. I was feeling guilty about whether or not I should contact Oak Hill. I've never had anything other than fantastic experience with them.

I vote for lobbii too. I also agree to contact Oak Hill with a picture.

Well, I did indeed email Oak Hill with a photo. And of course, Greg was totally wonderful about it all. He too agreed that it definitely looked most likely like lobbii. Only sad thing is they purchased that whole batch as parishii, so don't know now if they have parishii at all. It could all turn out to be lobbii. I feel bad for them. But Greg was totally willing to give me a credit on my next order.

I do like lobbii. He's a real cutie. I had just gotten all over-excited about that violet lip!

I was just on the Oak Hill site and didn't see a listing for parishii. Maybe they took it off their list untill they know for sure what they've got. Anyway what you got is very nice. And I had nothing but good experences with Oak Hill.

I had a problem with a Phal order last summer. All three had varying degrees of root rot. I repotted but let them know there was a problem. They said to let them know if the plants started declining and they would take care of it. Only one out of the three went funky on me and they happily replaced it with one they had recently repotted. All 3 are in bloom now.

I bet whoever they ordered from grabbed the wrong flask. What a drag! They're going to have to wait until they all bloom to sort them out. But the good news is people like lobbii too.

Yes, Eric. Greg said they'd be taking it off their website since they don't actually know if they have any now.

I love Oak Hill too!
