Dana I can only tell you what has worked for me. I probably do it a little differently than some people but found this method very easy with no losses on any of the flasks of phals I have done.

I use 2 and 4" plastic pots with p'nuts in the bottom and sphag. I keep my compots small and the plants not touching each other in case I pop mold/fungus in a container. I do not want them contaminating a whole container of plants.

In a 2" pot, I put two of the bigger plants in it and in a 4" pot I put four plants. When you use a bigger container, the middle of the media doesn't dry as fast as the edges and the middle plants will remain too wet.

I group all of these small containers in a regular nursery flat because I have the clear plastic covers that fit. I do harden them off faster than most people, usually within the week, but do keep the lids on at night for a couple of weeks.

I looked at the pics again and I see roots on top of the media. Do not be afraid to bury those roots. The way they are now you are basically growing them mounted.

Right now, grow them in low light and a very, very gentle air flow. A T-8 light would be appropriate light for these seedlings - for months.

Good luck, hopefully more people will jump in with some suggestions.

Brooke

I agree - I would pu them in plastic pots with holes in the bottom and sides for good drainage. Also, I wonder what everyone thinks about using a light dose of Physan as a fungal prevenatative just in case? I have used it to keep down algae in my pots when needed. It seems to be a very safe product - if you are concerned about fungus. I wish you all the best, and hope you get a good crop to sell to us!!

I hope do too! The plants looked great this morning before I left for work but I will definately be putting them in plastic as you guys said. I haven't counted them but I think there's at least 30 plants. I like Gin's idea about tupperware...got tons of that!

Thanx everyone, I'll keep you all posted.

I did something similar to this one time and it didn't work. Water did not drain from the container and pooled on the bottom. I didn't realize it because the top of the Sphag dried out quickly. In the end, the few plants I did this way got root rot.

Good luck. They need to be babied for a few weeks and then they will do great. I've gotten lots of good tips from Brooke on the Big Leaf forum.
