Here's my take on it Amanda. I'd pot it up. Those existing roots are supporting that Keiki. A basal Keiki won't grow a separate root system like Keikis from a spike. Basals use the existing root system and just take over growing vegetatively from the damaged parent plant. Eventually the parent plant will wither away and all that will be left is the Keiki. I feel it will grow faster and send out more roots sooner if it's potted. Just my .
