I just got myself a new phal last night. trying this orchid thing again. and the roots were all green and good looking in store and now they are not so much. they have a white haze on them. i would take a picture but i have no idea how to post if i dont have it posted online somewhere.
any ideas what it might be? or how can i post a pic.
I'm guessing you mean the roots you can see through the transparent pot? There is nothing to worry about. When phal roots have enough moisture they are green. As they dry out, they progressively become a silvery white. Then it's time to water it again.
As for pictures, it is all explained here. Don't forgot to resize the pics first, of else it won't work.
Hi Black thumb,
there's nothing 'wrong' with a phal having white roots..It depends how 'white' they are.. & this you will learn with experience..
In the meantime I would suggest you try & use the 'skewer' method to tell you - (put a wooden skewer in the pot straight away and in 24 hrs time take it out & put on your cheek....If it feels dry..water it (being careful to not get water into the crown of the plant) If it feels wet (cool) don't... and try again day after day until it feels dry..& then water!
I have always found this method extremely useful!
I'll let somone else give you the link on how to post a photo as without doing it am incapable of describing it sorry!
Good luck with your plant !
Phal leaves green up when they are wet. As they dry they turn white, which is the more natural color of the root. There's nothing at all wrong with your Phal! When the medium dries just water it.
