Also, one more question. When you go to put the support in, how do you know where to put it, so that you don't injure the plants root system?

Those branches off of the main spike are new spikes, and they will bloom. Yay! When I stake I wiggle the stake through the medium. It will follow the path of least resistance. There's really no way to know if you're hitting a root or not. Just be as gentle as you can. Congrats!

Meant to say the plant looks like it's still reaching for light, so if there's any way to give it a bit more do it. The lower leaf with the brown spotting on it looks like it's getting ready to shed. That's perfectly normal this time of year. After it sheds you should see the beginning of new leaf growth, followed by new root growth.

Two years ago or so, my sister, who does gardening and flowers professionally told me to "just throw it away and get a new one! Not worth the work!"

And, surprise of all surprises... this morning I got up and noticed that my five year old kiwi plant (now tree!) has flowers on it for the first time and what looks like a real kiwi!

WOW! What an exciting day! We live on the Oregon Coast where this stuff doesn't happen often! Also, we only have one plant and I don't know if it's male or female, so how did it do this alone?

I love rescuing orchids, too, and you have certainly done a grand job with this one. Congratulations on the Kiwi fruit tree - how cold does it get in the winter or is it in a green house? I always thought they had to be a bit warmer than I can manage outdoors.

It's just outside and it gets into the 20's and below, at times. That's rare, but it happens about once a winter, we have a cold spell like that.

It's doing great! Get one! They are beautiful! Grow it like clematis or wisteria on a trellis. Absolutely gorgeous! You are supposed to have a male and female for fruit.

OK, Ross? Anyone... I am looking to buy a grow light, like I said. I looked at Ross's reccomendation, but I just don't know what to buy.

I have one simple table in the lightest area of my home by the window. I think I only need one light with a timer... but what kind?

I was looking at these expensive lights on a website called wonderlites. Do I need something like that? I would prefer to have a swivel lamp that I could just clamp on to the table and not worry about fire, etc.

Can someone help me decide? Do I have to spend a bunch of money for 2-5 orchids? I only have two now, but if I invest in a light, I might get more!

Lookeeeeeeee! FINALLY! I just got home from Florida and she's blooming!
