Default Phal. equestris nubbin

Before I left for a short Thanksgiving trip out of town, I had pretty much decided that the nubbin on my Phal. equestris was yet another root. However, I have just returned home, and while I'm pretty sure now it is not a root, it's a little odd looking to me to be a spike. This will be my first equestris spike, so I'm unaware if it has any different spiking habits. The thing is, I'm still not seeing that tell-tale mitten shape on the end. It's still nubbinesque.

Any thoughts? I'm hopeful it's a spike!

Looks like a spike to me. One of my equestris did something similar last month, with that little "nubbin" just poking out from under the leaves but not doing much. Finally, about two weeks later, bingo - a spike in formation. It's now three inches long.

Looks like a spike to me too. Funny how it has a right angle bend in it!

YAY!! That's very exciting. I know, Camille! I have no idea why it's taken that turn – it's actually heading in the opposite direction from where the light bulb is!

Looks like 2 growths to me. Ist one to the left in the photo is a root. But the other growth (looks like the letter r) definitley looks to be a spike.

There's a spike and a root! Both are good!

It's definitely a spike. Once this one starts blooming it never quits. Seriously! I've had one in continual bloom since July 2007.

Thanks all!! It is very exciting. I got this equestris at some point this past summer, and I'm pretty sure she has not bloomed before.
So, I'm pretty thrilled.

The roots, however, she constantly sends out like crazy! And while a lot of the roots have ended up wrapping around the wood mount, a lot of them are just hanging out in the air all over the place. I'm actually a bit worried that she's going to end up trying to latch onto other nearby mounts.
