Phal. equestris nubbin

Before I left for a short Thanksgiving trip out of town, I had pretty much decided that the nubbin on my Phal. equestris was yet another root. However, I have just returned home, and while I'm pretty sure now it is not a root, it's a little odd looking to me to be a spike. This will be my first equestris spike, so I'm unaware if it has any different spiking habits. The thing is, I'm still not seeing that tell-tale mitten shape on the end. It's still nubbinesque.

Any thoughts? I'm hopeful it's a spike!
